Spring Makeup for Freckles #Bloggersdoitbetter

Recently I came across the #Bloggersdoitbetter challenge on twitter and was intrigued! The challenge was set up by Gem over at Touch of Belle and has since turned into a twitter chat which takes every Monday at 7pm and Friday at 8pm GMT.

Basically the challenge involves writing a blog post based around a topic Gem has chosen. I think it's a really great idea to come up with new blog posts and to interact with other bloggers. You can read more about the challenge on Gem's original blog post here.
It's open to all bloggers so if you'd like to get involved just pop Gem an email at touchofbelle@gmail.com with your name, email address and blog URL in order to get involved.

So as you can probably see from reading Gem's post I'm a little late to the game, but better late than never eh?

For me, spring is all about natural beauty, keeping your makeup fresh and light. So for people like me who are pale and freckled this means embracing our natural porcelain skin tone and letting those freckles shine through. Now this is all well and good but what if you have lots of spots? Then you have a conundrum. You see lighter coverage foundation won't be able to hide the major blemishes but a heavier coverage foundation will hide your freckles and if that's the case it's hardly in keeping with the spring trend.
This is where a good concealer comes in handy!

So here is my Spring Makeup for freckled faces routine:

  1. Primer: Primer is key for this routine as it will even out your skintone and help the makeup to stay put all day. This is especially important for those with oily/combination skin as lighter coverage foundations tend to wear off much quicker than the heavier alternatives. I've used the Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser and allowed it 5 minutes to settle into my skin.
  2. Next comes the concealing. For blemishes I'd suggest a heavy coverage concealer, I've used the Seventeen Phwoar Paint in Fair concealer but I'd also recommend the Collection Lasting Perfection, both are amazing concealers. Dab the concealer on your spots then stipple and blend using a concealer brush. I used the Real Techniques Crease brush.
  3. Then just add an undereye concealer to mask any dark eyes. My top pick for undereye concealer has to be the Maybelling Instant Age Rewind Eraser. This not only covers dark circles perfectly but won't crease throughout the day.
  4. For my foundation I've used L'Oreal Nude Magique Eau De Teint in Porcelain. This is a barely there foundation that will even out skintone but won't cover freckles. Only a few drops are needed and it can be applied using your fingers or a brush.
  5. The final step in the foundation routine is just to apply a setting powder using a fluffy powder brush. I've chosen the Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder in translucent.
  6. To  finish off your makeup just apply your eyemakeup. I've  Foxy across my eyelid and tease in my crease, both from the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette, I've tight lined my upper lid using Maybelline Gel Liner and applied the Benefit They're Real mascara. Then add a flush of colour to your cheeks, my favourite peachy blush is Catrice Love & Peach and finish with a natural looking lipstick. My pick was Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede in It Girl.
And there you have it. A simple fresh springtime look, that's natural but still manages to hid any blemishes.

I hope you enjoyed reading this, is your spring makeup different from your winter makeup? Let me know in the comment and please check back soon for more blog posts in the #Bloggersdoitbetter challenge.
