MUA Probase Conceal and Highlight Kit

Hey everyone!
Hope you all had a really great St. Patricks weekend.

So in this post I'll be reviewing the MUA Pro-base conceal &brighten palette. I brought this around a month ago from Superdrug for around €4. Now as many of you may know I'm a big fan of MUA, I think they make great quality cosmetics for often less than €5! Their eye palette ranges are quality dupes of the Urban Decay Naked palettes and I'm a big fan also of their lipsticks. So far for me they can do no wrong!

Now I had no real need for a concealer kit but the added bonus of a highlighter is the main reason I bought this kit. I've searched high and low for a good quality cheap highlighter so I was intrigued by MUA's offering.
The shade I bought was Beige-Golden which is actually the darkest in the range but was the only one in stock at the time.

"Perfectly blendable camouflage for almost any skin imperfection including blemishes, scars, birthmarks and under eye circles. Also contains highlighting cream to transform your complexion with luminescent shimmer."

Now for me I find the texture of the concealers kind of waxy and oily and it didn't seem to be to my liking. I tried it out under my eyes first which was a big mistake. It creased very badly and just wasn't the right texture for under my eyes.
I do find however that it is much better at concealing my birthmark. I was born with a rash like birthmark down the side of my neck. As I wear my hair down most days no one really ever notices it but I always see it. It's what my eyes are drawn to when I look at myself in the mirror. I decided i'd try this out as a concealer for my neck and I was delighted with the results.
I applied the cream with my fingers and blended using my real techniques pointed foundation brush.

Now as you can see from these photos you can still kind of see the redness in my neck but for €4, I'm delighted. It reduces the appearance of a rash dramatically. It lasts all day long and sits well underneath my foundation (on the days I'm wearing some).

The highlighter is a nice shimmery pink colour. It looks quite nice and isn't oily on the skin. I use it on my brow bone and cheek bones. It's a nice little find but I'm afraid it hasn't stopped me searching for a better highlighter, but until I find a new one it will do.

Overall this palette is only okay. Great for what you are paying but after trying out their eyeshadow palettes I think I had just had put MUA on a pedestal! I don't see myself ever repurchasing this but at the same time I'll still keep using it until something better comes along.

Have any of you guys tried this conceal and highlight kit? What were your opinions? I'm curious to know if maybe it just doesn't suit my skin or if most people had the same feelings about it.

xx

  2. MUA palettes are really good, shame this didn't quite make that level but it did a really good job of concealing the redness. I find birth marks/scars and things really interesting and endearing don't be embarrassed!

    1. I think I might just have too high expectations of MUA because if this palette came from another brand for that price I'd probably be raving about how much I loved it!
      Will do!
