Applying makeup on public transport...Yay or Nay?

Okay, I've a confession to make. I'll admit it. I'm a serial offender when it comes to applying makeup on the bus. I know, i know! I've read the articles where its explicitly explained that a dab or lipgloss or a quick powder of the nose is just fine but putting your full face on is a big fat NO NO, but I can't help it.

A picture of me trying to apply some mascara
taken by my impatient friend who wanted to go out!

Let me explain. Every morning I get the bus at 7 o'clock and travel on the bus for over an hour so that I can get to college. let me tell you, I am not a very active person at half 6 in the morning. Therefore on the days I do decide i want to wear makeup, I put it on during the bus journey. Also I used to travel quite regularly to Dublin (I was living in Limerick which is about 2 and a half hours away) last year. I would be in college all day and just hop on the first bus I could get. Since I didn't want to turn up in Dublin looking like Dobby from Harry Potter I'd spend some of my bus journey putting on makeup.

This is the kind of bus I'm on every morning......see its big and not that bad for putting on makeup.

I do have some boundaries though. I don't apply makeup when I'm sitting beside someone, I think it would just make things awkward for both of us. I only apply it on trains and coaches (50 seater buses), don't worry I don't go applying it on the city buses. Even I won't do that. But other than that I really have no problem putting on my makeup. I put on my foundation, powder, blusher, eyeshadow, lipstick and mascara. I've even painted my nails on the bus (don't worry it wasn't a strong smelling polish).

I'd like to think I look more like this...

....and less like this

I have gotten the occasional odd look now and again but it really doesn't bother me. My opinion is as long as I'm not interrupting someone elses journey then it shouldn't bother them! I know some people would never ever do it though.
My question for you guys is: what's your opinion on public transport makeup application? Do you have a problem with it? Or like me do you see it as just a chance for you to stay in bed for an extra 15 minutes in the morning? I'd love to hear all of your opinions.

p.s I've recently joined bloglovin so i'd love for you guys to follow me on that, thanks so much

  1. I always do it, if it means I can have 20 extra minutes in bed in the mornings I don't care! I get a little embarrassed sometimes when people look at you, but I just think to myself "I'll never see these people again" :)

    great post! xo

  3. I did do it when I was getting long buses alone, or I'd happily do my lips or concealer on a Dublin Bus. But I'm amazed when I'm on a city bus & see someone do their whole face, mainly coz I don't know how they manage to do it properly!

    1. Ya it must take some skill to do it on Dublin bus but I just couldn't do it. I'd feel a little too awkward!

  4. I think them big coach buses are fine! I think people need to realise that the coaches are alot roomier and more private than the Dublin Bus type city buses! I'm with you on this one because your commute is so long and so early x

  5. on a bus like that or on a train I think it's fine. Really as long as you're not elbowing somebody in the head while you're trying to put your mascara on I don't see the problem.

    1. Ya I'd hate to be sitting right beside someone elbowing me while they are doing their makeup! That would just ruin the journey

  7. Hey, thanks for stopping by my blog - sorry it took me so long to get to yours! :)
I don't do a lot of public transport these days and don't think I've ever done my make-up on a bus (though I don't think it's a problem for people to do so!) but I've definitely done my nail polish on the train more than once!

  15. I was running late for a shoot one day and needed to put on a bita makeup,i opened up my suitcase with the make-up.I had the top part zipper left open and a few of my eyelashes fell out, on my way to pick them up, my foot got stuck in the top zipper part,i tripped over and nearly knocked out a girl that was standing up.I picked up my eyelashs packed up my suitcase and walked down the other part of the luas. I didnt apply my make up after that and i wont chance doing it again haha xx
