Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation

"Makeup so refreshingly light, it melts right in, creating a fresh even look. So the only one that knows
you are wearing makeup is you"

So as many of you may know I'm trying to take a more natural approach to my daytime makeup, so in this quest for 'no makeup' makeup I've turned to my trusted friends Revlon. A few weeks ago I decided to try out the (relatively) new Revlon Nearly Naked foundation. I took a while choosing my shade and decided to go for 130 Shell, it was a little too yellow and pale for me but the shade higher was too warm for my skin tone.

Low and behold a week later I receive a lovely package in the post, a beautiful print I'd won from a facebook competition by Revlon and also in the package was a note telling me my selected shade would be with me in a few days. And a few days late along came my shade 150 Nude (don't know why I chose it, but at the time of the competition I hadn't tested the shades against my skin and just assumed it would be an ok match).
So I've decided to do my review on both!

So my first impressions of this foundation was how it's much thinner and runnier than the colorstay I'm used to, but not too watery. I really like the packaging, it looks quite classy, it wouldn't look out of place among more expensive brands. The obvious flaw is the lack of a pump, but if I'm honest I've come to expect that from Revlon at this stage and after using their products fro so many years I've pretty much perfected my pouring technique.

Nude (apologies for the fuzzy photo)

Shell
So this is definitely a more natural coverage than the Revlon Colorstay. The lasting power was pretty good lasting for around 8 hours with powder. It evens out skintone and covers minor imperfections, without looking cakey. It hides my redness but still allows my skin to show through. It doesn't cover major blemishes or scars though. It gives a dewy look at first and settles into a more matte finish as the day goes on.

Nude

Shell
This is definitely a medium coverage foundation, it doesn't cover blemishes but it covers up my freckles. I applied it using my Real Techniques expert face brush. The shell is definitely more suited to my skintone but during the summer I'll probably be mixing it with my nude. It gives the skin a really nice luminous glow without looking shiny.

This photo is me wearing half shell (on the right side of face) and half nude (left side of face). When you see them blended out beside one another their difference aren't so obvious. They do create the dreaded ring along my jawline so I'll have to be careful and blend it properly when I'm wearing it.

I'm actually quite a big fan of it. I've been wearing Shell daily since getting it. I do wear concealer over it as my skin is FAR from perfect but if you have good skin I'd say you could nearly get away with just the foundation. The thing that I really love about this product is that it doesn't look or feel like you have a lot of makeup on, its very natural. Which is great as I'm on my natural makeup quest.

The one I bought cost me something like €11 and the formula, coverage and finish at this price point is great quality.
If you're looking for a light coverage foundation to give you a 'your skin but better' effect then I think this is the foundation for you!

Have you tried this foundation yet? Will you be giving it a go?
Do you also prefer a lighter coverage or are you a full coverage kinda gal?

    1. Aw thank you so much for the skin compliment, you don't know how much that means. I've been trying to fix up my skin for the last few months and finally it's starting to show some improvement. Now if only there was a magical cure for large clogged pores. . . .

  6. I have this in shell. I really like it once it's on but I find it a bit tricky to apply! I think it's probably because it doesn't have a pump!
Thank you for commenting on my blog, I've been following yours for a little while now :) It's great!
    Hope you're well?

    1. Ya, I'm very used to colorstay, which dries quickly so I'm not used to this as much, but i think I'm getting the hang of it now.
Aw thank you so much, I'm a big fan of your blog.

    1. I think I'm so used to my higher coverage foundations that I feel like it's giving me no coverage at all, hahaha. Your comment makes me feel better about the coverage now.

    1. Not even in Dublin?? I haven't seen any lighter in Limerick but I'd have assumed someone in Dublin would have larger stocks, that sucks for you! Is shell too dark?
Hahaha really? If I could I'd give you a few of them

    2. Chloe: re- u said you can't find it lighter than Shell- well maybe you know this from reading online, but in the States in the drugstore I found Vanilla and even lighter was Ivory. Vanilla is very light with a bit of yellow so it suits me (but really too light almost, so I may buy shell or nude(?) to blend on my nose and cheeks). The Ivory is even lighter with more of a pink cast to it. I love this foundation and actually like it better than the Urban Decay Naked Skin for my skin type (combination. Feel like the urban decay is more drying to skin). It also reminds me of MUFE HD though definitely less pigment and more fresh and light feeling. I would use MUFE for night if I wanted more coverage but truth be told I'm not 100% sold on that foundation yet. Dunno. Regardless, I do know from experience that any foundation that is lightweight and more on the sheer side/buildable coverage such as Nearly Naked is really ideal for freckly faces :) Which is also what I have. Anyway are you guys in the UK? If so, here's a link for boots if you want those shades

  9. I actually was looking at this in boots the other day, it sounds like a lovely foundation and I'm on the same quest as you to find a nice, not heavy foundation! I hate the dreaded line along the jaw though :( Oh you asked where I picked up the essie polish on my april favourites for £1.99, you can pick them up from the fragrance direct website

    1. Ya the line wasn't so bad somedays but on the day I was taking these photographs, it was just so obvious. Just means I've to be careful and blend everything properly I suppose.
I love fragrance direct. It's amazing and such great value. Thanks a million for getting back to me, you're a star!
